Smelter Site Pollution Settlement
This $42,000,000 settlement arises out of a lawsuit against defendants United States Metal Refining Company, Freeport Minerals Corporation, Freeport-McMoRan, Inc. and Amax Realty alleging that properties in the Class Area Map above were damaged by the release of lead, arsenic, and other contaminants from the historic operation of the Smelter Site located in Carteret, New Jersey. The Defendants deny that they have done anything wrong but have entered into this settlement to prevent prolonged further litigation.
Who is included in the Class?
You are a member of the Class, regardless of any damage to your property, if you own or owned Residential Property in the Class Area Map above between January 30, 2017 and March 27, 2023. The Class Area is generally bounded by PeterJ. Sica Industrial Highway to the East, Romanowski Street to the North-East, Cypress Street to the North, Arthur and East Grant Streets to the West, and Middlesex Avenue to the South.
The only way to receive compensation from this settlement is to file a claim form by JUNE 26, 2023.
